Building Sand Excavation Overburden Strip/Restoration
At the start of 2015, Pope Plant Ltd were appointed preferred contractor to carry out the final building sand excavation to expose the last seam of industrial silica sand deposit in the Northern Quarry.
The works involved constructing haul road ramp to the higher bench of building sand, safe access had been destroyed through inclement weather conditions over the winter period.
The building sand was stockpiled in the quarry floor in preparation for Hanson’s to run through their screening process.
Whilst on site, Pope Plant Ltd was instructed to carry out an overburden strip in the Southern Quarry to expose sand deposit for trial screening process. The sand on this side of the M20 is a fine granular sand with a limited market.
The overburden material was placed as restoration to a previously excavated sand face to create a 1:4 gradient slope.

“I would not hesitate to invite Pope Plant ltd to bid for future earthworks projects with Hanson, and
recommend them to any prospective clients.”
