CONSTRUCTION OF BUTTRESS
The construction of western buttress using sand from the southern side quarrying of the M20 motorway was a follow on from the work completed in Dec 2011.
The work comprised of excavating sand from the southern quarry and hauling a long distance under the M20 to reach the top of the Western
Northern quarry. The work involved engineering a sand buttress and placing fill material above in compacted layers to protect the clay batter separating the quarry and reservoir. When the sand layers were complete, the placement of topsoil commenced to complete the restoration of Western slope.
