PHASED CAPPING
Redhill Landfill Southern Area Phased Capping involved the excavation of approximately 110’000m3 of existing membrane capping and soils on a phase by phase basis.
The soils were hauled and placed to temporary stockpiles for later use within the works. The old membrane cap was disposed of to the active landfill.
The client then filled the newly created void with waste from various sources. Upon completetion of filling the area was then made available for re-capping.
Preparation of waste formation was required to receive waste regulation layer. Once regulation material was placed a 0.5mm LLDPE membrane was installed using the lap and lay method. A Geotextile was then placed over the membrane for protection. Conformance testing was completed by a UKAS accredited laboratory.
When the permanent capping was complete, soils were then excavated, hauled and placed to a depth of 1 metre to restore the area.
Finally a surface water management system was installed.
