CAPPING AND SURFACE WATER WORKS
On behalf of Biffa Waste Services., Pebsham LFS Capping and surface water works was awarded by SLR Consulting Ltd to Pope Plant Ltd under contract NEC option B.
Whilst Biffa was behind with the input of waste to NE quadrant, it was decided by all parties that the work to construct surface water lagoon would begin then follow on to the capping works later upon completion of filling operation.
There was 25’000m3 of clay excavated, hauled and placed on a long haul from one side of site to the other to construct lagoon. This was removed from previously placed stockpile in the rented farmer’s field.
The lagoon was 95% complete only, due to the discharge point to Combe Haven not being granted permission in time by the EA.
Waste filling to NE Quadrant was complete mid November, some 8 weeks behind schedule due to unforeseen reduced inputs. This led to only 8’000m2 of LLDPE welded membrane being deployed by Pope Plant nominated sub-contractor before the worse winter on record stopped the works.
Pope Plant Ltd are due back to site Spring 2014 to complete the remaining works.
