Cell 8b construction and capping
After talks between Cory's and Pope Plant it was decided to start the works at Greatness.
After viewing the proposed works involved in the construction of Cell 8b, it was apparent that the build would prove challenging with the surrounding leachate levels and exposing the intercell bunds. Due to the close working relationship between Client and contractor, the works were awarded on a day work basis with all costs and works involved presented in daily journal format on a weekly basis for monitoring purpose.
The works involved :
- Excavation of material from cell to restoration
- Clay excavation to stockpile GCL installation
- Clay stockpile to engineering
- Installation of textile and aggregate drainage blanket + sump and monitoring points.
- Installation and removal of pumping system during the works
In addition to the standard Cell and Capping works, selective excavation of materials were required along with the requirement to cross boundary fence into the Lafarge Tarmac Quarry to excavate and haul quality engineering clay to Cell 8b. Pope plant Ltd had to work closely with two clients adhering to both companies H&S regulations along with a third party earthworks contractor carrying out stripping works for Lafarge Tarmac. There were no issues reported regarding Health and Safety.
The works were complete even with inclement weather conditions hitting hard towards the end of contract.
Works were within the client budget and worked sufficiently on a day work basis.
Pope Plant Ltd are provisionally in line to start Cell 8c works working with Cory Environmental Ltd and Lafarge Tarmac, early spring 2015.
