CELL ENGINEERING, CAPPING AND RESTORATION
Following on from Cell 8 works in 2012, Pope Plant ltd were awarded as principal contractor Cell 8b construction and engineering along with Cell 7 capping and restoration.
The works involved preparing previously installed regulation layer along with a further 10’000m2 placement of material. We exposed tie-in for the placement of 20’000m2 of GCL carried out by our team of installers and equipment. The work was supervised full time by client chosen consultant Egniol.
The GCL was then covered to a depth of 1m from the Cell 8b excavation material. The in-situ engineering clay was then shaped to fall to the lowest point so surface water could be controlled until summer 2014 when engineering would take place.
There were some remedial works undertaken to repair engineering clay batter slips during the winter of 2012.
A new haul road was constructed in preparation to receive waste inputs to Cell 7b without the need to go through the middle of Cell 8b.
The work was completed on time and budget during the summer months.
