CELL PREP OF CELL 8 AND CAPPING WORKS
Pope Plant Ltd was awarded the Cell prep of Cell 8 and capping works at Greatness Landfill in June 2012.
The capping work consisted of placement and preparation of regulation layer and installing 25’000m2 of GCL. The restoration material was hauled and placed from the new Cell 8 excavation. The material was placed to a 1 metre depth above the capping.
The Cell preparation involved removing all unsuitable engineering material and placing to restoration. When the in-situ clay seam was exposed, this was removed to stockpile for later engineering purposes.
When the formation was achieved and approved by Egniol consultants, the clay was used to engineer the base, batter and inter-cell bunds in two 300mm engineered layers.
There were three concrete pads installed for leachate monitoring purposes before the new cell was signed off to the client so installation of tyre bail leachate blanket could begin. The work was completed on time and budget even with wet conditions at the beginning of the project.
