GCL Capping and Restoration.
Following immediately on from the completed work at Barling LFS, Pope Plant Ltd was awarded the capping and restoration contract at Bellhouse Landfill.
The works comprised of exposing the tie-in to previously placed clay mineral cap and regulating the surface in preparation for the installation of GCL. This part of the contract was elected to be carried out on a day work basis based on the performance of staff at the Barling LFS.
Once the day works were complete, surface laid gas infrastructure was disconnected in phases to allow the installation of GCL. Good communication was paramount during this phase of the works to keep the site engines supplied with gas, generated from the landfill.
Pope Plant Ltd installed circa 35’000m2 of GCL and covered with 300mm protection of site derived soils. The remaining 750mm of soils required for restoration was then carried out by Cory Environmental over the course of the year.
The GCL capping works was carried out on a price per m2 basis and was completed weeks ahead of schedule due to competent management and good weather.
“Once the day works were complete, surface laid gas infrastructure was disconnected in phases to allow the installation of GCL. “
“A clear strength of Pope Plant is the close and direct management of all works by Craig Pope, who has consistently demonstrated the desire to complete works efficiently and cost effectively, even on occasion when unforeseen circumstances may occur.”
