Construction of one of the largest landfill cells in SE ..
Works were awarded for the construction of the largest landfill Cell in the South of England to create waste void for our repeat client Enoverts.
The working area had previously been extracted of minerals above gault clay by Tarmacs then handed over to our client.
As the cut/fill works of 36’000m3 progressed it became evident that an ingress water issue had to be addressed and controlled within the formation. This was a challenging prospect at times.
Due to this unforeseen element of the works and the ever increasing need for waste void, it was decided by our client to split the Cell development in order to provide the void space before the Winter months were upon us.
The Cell 9 design changed during works and build volumes of clay engineering to basal, side slopes and intercell bunds along with Geotextile and aggregate placement were reduced from original tender stage.
The Construction of leachate sump and 2 monitoring points to specification, along with leachate collection pipework were completed.
All the works were under the strict supervision of a CQA engineer.
Although the works were reduced, Pope Plant Ltd provided the much needed waste void in time, given the issues that were overcome during construction.
Pope Plant Ltd anticipate returning in 2021
“it’s been a pleasure and thanks to you and your lads”
