EARTHWORKS AT WROTHAM QUARRY

After tendering for the earthworks at Wrotham Quarry in April 2011, Pope Plant Ltd was awarded the contract in late August.

Stripping of topsoil/subsoil was completed from Eastern area of the Northern extension to gain access to the sand deposits.

The main works consisted of excavation, haulage, placement and compaction of approximately 245’000m3 of Gault Clay to extracted mineral quarry for the purpose of restoration. Installation of horizontal wick drains was constructed within the clay to avoid potential shear planes.

Upon completing clay earthworks a drainage blanket consisting of superficial and over size aggregate was constructed to form a one

metre cap on the crest of the Gault Clay .

A further 10,000mΒ³ of brown sand was excavated, hauled, placed and compacted to form retaining buttress to gain access to the previously failed slopes of the upper western end of the quarry.

The end of year weather and lack of suitable materials brought the contract to a close for the winter period.

Pope Plant Ltd are required to re-mobilise early Spring to strip topsoil/subsoil from the southern excavation area on the other side of the M20 motorway to source suitable material for the repair work of the previously failed slopes of the upper Western end of the quarry.

“Stripping of topsoil/subsoil was completed to gain access to the sand deposits.”

Been a bit of a rush preparing this one
Apart from the hand painted counterweight it’s pretty clean
No time to rub down, fill and spray properly as off to work next week.
Full service inc Hepa filters fitted for the soil treatment facility it’s off to next week in Hertfordshire
Street pads came off nicely leaving like new grousers on the track padsπŸ‘
